Strategies
for Women-Students in Doctoral
 Studies

As a woman, if you are a parent, you may experience a higher level of stress compared to a non-parent student. However, there are strategies that can help you manage this stress. One approach is "Honoring," which involves identifying what's essential and deciding which role will take priority. For example, you may choose to leave your professional job to pursue school while continuing to be an active spouse/life partner. Another approach is "Blending," where you combine your home life, professional work, school, and other community activities to make everything work together. Finally, "Embracing Limits" involves accepting that it may not be possible to accomplish everything and being comfortable with limitations. It's important to recognize that there are only so many hours in a day and that it's okay to focus on what's most important (Rockinson-Szapkiw et al., 2017).
